News – Armed Forces Award for Excellence and Innovation

Major General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, attended today the commemoration ceremony of a group of the Ministry of Defence staff and National Service male and female recruits who won the 6th edition of the Armed Forces Award for Excellence and Innovation. The award aims to honor and stimulate outstanding performance and encourage positive competition.

The ceremony, which was held in Erth Abu Dhabi Hotel, was attended by a number of MOD senior officers and personnel.

HE Major General Staff Dr. Mubarak Saeed bin Ghafan Al Jabri, Assistant Undersecretary for Support and Defence Industries, Ministry of Defence, and Chairman of the Award’s Executive Committee, delivered a speech. He said, “Excellence and innovation have always been the focus of the UAE wise leadership’s attention. It has become a registered brand and equivalent title of the UAE, which is always soaring high in the forefront and whose leaders are fond of challenge, competitiveness and innovation.”

He added, “The launch of the Armed Forces Award for Excellence and Innovation in 2017 demonstrates our Armed Forces’ firm belief in the importance of dissemination of the culture of excellence and innovation as a must for improvement of the overall performance of the Armed Forces commands, units and personnel. This culture consolidates the general approach adopted by the Armed Forces since its unification in May 6, 1976, which makes excellence, quality and innovation the main criterion for assessment of performance. Thanks to this criterion our Armed Forces have been able to develop and improve their combat efficiency and readiness, as well as to prepare their national personnel.”

HE extended thanks, appreciation and gratitude to the supreme patronage received by the Armed Forces Award for Excellence and Innovation from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, may God protect him.

Major General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, honored the winners of the different categories of the award, including the Best Innovation Award for the individual and collective category, the Best Scientific Research Award for the individual and collective category, and the Best Creative Idea Award.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the honorees thanked the Ministry of Defence and the Executive Committee for the Award for the great efforts they made in introducing the award and selecting the winners. They affirmed that excellence and innovation are among the most important main criteria in measuring the extent of development of the Armed Forces. These two factors are closely related to the various aspects of development and modernization in the Ministry of Defence, mainly the human element and its preparation and training according to high-level programs to be able to excel and innovate. They also stressed that winning the Armed Forces Award for Excellence and Innovation encouraged them greatly to continue giving in the field of education and innovation. They expressed their thanks for the opportunity given to them and gratitude to their various units that encouraged them to participate and compete for the award.

It is worth mentioning that the Armed Forces Award for Excellence and Innovation was established in 2017. It aims to spread the spirit of competition between units and formations of the Armed Forces in the field of excellence and innovation. It also seeks to provide innovative solutions to many challenges, discover human talents and potential, and exploit the technical, technological and practical resources and competencies available in the Armed Forces. This would support and enhance development and modernization to help the Armed Forces keep abreast of the developments and challenges of the strategic environment and the accelerating scientific revolution.
