Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense meets the delegation of the United Nations Women

His Excellency Mattar Salem Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense, met today at Ministry of Defense, Anita Bhatia Assistant Secretary-General for Resource Management, Sustainability and Partnerships and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Executive Director of the UN Women Liaison Office in Abu Dhabi, and a number of senior officials and officers in the Ministry of Defense, and the delegation accompanying the guest attended the meeting.

During the meeting, a number of important topics were discussed, including the efforts and keenness of our wise leadership to pay attention to the role of Emirati women, and harnessing all capabilities to demonstrate their scientific and practical capabilities in the civil and military fields.

His Excellency Mattar Salem Al Dhaheri commended the efforts made to achieve gender equality and enhance the representation of the role of Arab women in the military field and peacekeeping operations.

His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense also discussed with the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Women the means of cooperation in the field of training women in security and peace sector. A new session of this program will be implemented next January with the participation of a group of trainees from countries in Africa and Asia as well as Arabic countries.

For its part, the United Nations official praised the role of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, for advancement and empowerment of Emirati women, and her continuous support for women's rights to access education and equal employment opportunities. United Nations official also commended the UAE for its important role in supporting the capability-building program for women in the security and peace sector, which is organized by the United Nations in partnership with the General Women's Union, the Ministry of Defense in the country and the liaison office for the United Nations in Abu Dhabi.
