HE Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defense Affairs, affirmed that women are the source of nation building, the source of life, and the symbol of the nation’s happiness.
HE said in a statement marking the celebration of Emirati Women’s Day that H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, launching of this year's slogan "Women, Icons of Tolerance" reflects the importance of the role of Emirati women, and the appreciation of their efforts as the basis in the making of a nation that is based on principles of good ethics and characterized by values of tolerance and goodness. Women make men who are able to protect their homeland with pride and dignity, "Mother is a school and if you prepare her well, you will prepare people of good races."
He added, "Emirati women, throughout years of work, effort and perseverance, have proven their efficiency, readiness and ability to take responsibility in the military fields, and active participation in administrative, humanitarian and relief work equally with their male partners."
The Ministry of Defense organized in Abu Dhabi today a celebration of this occasion, in addition to holding a symposium entitled "Emirati Women and Spreading the Principle of Tolerance", where HE Major General Hamdan Saeed Al Shamsi, Inspector General stressed that the empowerment of women in the UAE is not a newborn ... it is rather a concept rooted in the Emirati heritage and a component that has grown as the country grew."
He added, "Arming with knowledge is the most powerful weapon, and as our wise leadership has used it to empower women, it has also enabled them to participate in the national defence duty, where the female staff occupies a third of the staff in the Ministry of Defense."
He emphasized that the empowerment of women in the defence field is only an aspect of the distinguished Emirati national scene, where sections come together and complement each other.
During the symposium, experiences of inspiring women from the Emirates were reviewed. Hamda Al Hosani talked about her experience in the Special Olympics team for People of Determination, and presented her experiences in the team.
The ceremony included the participation of Kholoud Jouan Al Dhahiri, a judge in the Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal, and Sheikha Al Muhairi, a consultant at the Dubai Health Authority, in a panel discussion where they reviewed their experiences in life and at work.
The ceremony was attended by a number of senior officers and officials from the Ministry of Defense as well as female employees from the Ministry and from the Armed Forces GHQ.
